An ancient Ukrainian folk ritual known as “Obzhynky” will be held at the open-air museum in Pyrohiv

On July 13 at 1:00 PM, the National Museum of Folk Architecture and Life of Ukraine will host the Ukrainian Bread Festival.

The event will feature a reenactment of the traditional Ukrainian folk ritual “Obzhynky”, which marks the end of the harvest season. One of the most significant celebrations in the agricultural calendar, “Obzhynky” expresses gratitude to the earth for its bounty, joy for the gathered grain, and hopes for prosperity in the year ahead.

The festival program includes live demonstrations of traditional grain harvesting and processing methods, bread baking workshops, a folk artisans’ fair, performances by creative ensembles, and thematic lectures on bread-related customs and rituals.

At 5:00 PM, the main stage of the Museum will welcome a special performance by the renowned band KOZAK SYSTEM.

This large-scale ethnographic celebration invites visitors to immerse themselves in the authentic atmosphere of a Ukrainian village from centuries past. “Obzhynky” is more than a historical reenactment—it offers a chance to become part of a living Ukrainian tradition, to appreciate the cultural significance of bread, and to honor the labor behind it.
