European Heritage Days 2024: Ukraine joins the celebration

Cultural heritage

From September 7 to 15, 2024, Ukraine will host a series of events as part of the European Heritage Days, which annually unite more than 40 European countries. This year, Ukraine joins the pan-European theme, “Heritage of Routes, Networks, and Connections.” Participants will explore how various connections —from ancient trade routes to modern digital networks — have influenced the development of Europe’s cultural heritage.

The program of events in Ukraine will focus on analyzing local heritage, including architectural landmarks and traditions that emerged through the interaction of various peoples living in the country. Special attention will be given to the role of transport routes and trade networks in shaping both national and international cultural customs.

Secretary General of the Council of Europe, Marija Pejčinović Burić, noted that the 2024 theme highlights the importance of shared European heritage, which unites nations, preserves cultural diversity, and strengthens international values.

“As we celebrate the 75th anniversary of the Organization and the 70th anniversary of the European Cultural Convention, the theme chosen for the European Heritage Days in 2024 is a powerful reminder of how our shared heritage continues to connect us, regardless of borders and time, enriching our collective European identity and supporting the foundations of democracy,” emphasized Marija Pejčinović Burić.

All events within the European Heritage Days are free of charge.
