On 28 May 2019, a round table “The Prospects of Countering Disinformation: The Case of EU Member States” is due to be held at the Ukrinform news agency.
States are increasingly recognising the need to regulate news media, including on the Internet. In November last year, the National Assembly in France passed a law on combatting information manipulations, dubbed the anti-fake law in the media. This year, the Ukrainian governmental delegation held a number of consultations with French MPs and French government officials either supporting or opposing the law.
On May 28th, the Deputy Minister of Information Policy, Dmytro Zolotukhin, who took part in the discussion of the law with the French side, will speak on how the anti-fake law was passed in France; how it works; and what issues it tackles. The round table will gather media experts, government specialists, and members of the civil society to discuss whether such a law is possible in Ukraine, and what are the prospects of regulating online news media in Ukraine.
