Opening of the “Artists at the Front” exhibition in Kyiv

Upcoming events Art

On February 18 at 6:00 PM, Kyiv will host the opening of the first exhibition “Artists at the Front”, part of the artistic project “Art Resistance”. This initiative is organized by the National Union of Artists of Ukraine in collaboration with the ABC Art Gallery.

In these difficult times, the artistic front is a vital part of Ukraine’s resistance. Artists not only document history but also create a cultural narrative that counters russia’s attempts to undermine Ukrainian identity.

Curated by journalist and art manager Olena Kotliar, the exhibition will feature works from artists defending Ukraine, including Serhii Herasymenko, Volodymyr Hurin, Roman Kravchuk, Ihor Talalai, Serhii Burbelo, Viktor Solovar, Volodymyr Vakulenko, Vasyl Telychko-Evert, Artem Shevchenko, Mykola Medynskyi, and more. Visitors can expect over 40 works across various genres, including paintings, graphics, installations, and art objects. Some pieces are made using “trench painting” techniques on ammunition boxes.

A key highlight will be a painting by Serhii Smetankin, an artist and military volunteer on the front lines since 2014. His work, dedicated to the liberation of Sviatohirsk during the Kharkiv counteroffensive, is titled “Sviatohirsk. We Were Waiting”.

The exhibition will be open until March 8, 2025.

The National Union of Artists of Ukraine has also organized notable exhibitions such as “Unyielding Hero Cities”, “Mariupol: The Soul of Ukraine”, “Fiery Rear”, and “Artists Defending the Country”, with some shown in various European countries.

Location: ABC Art Gallery, 32B Hlybochytska Street, 3rd Floor.
