Upcoming events

On May 28 at 5:00 PM, the stage of the National Opera of Ukraine will host the premiere of the iconic ballet “Forest Song”, presented by students of the Kyiv State Professional Choreographic College named after Tetiana Taiakina.

For over 75 years, “Forest Song” has remained a proud symbol of Ukrainian classical ballet. It is based on the renowned poetic drama by Ukrainian writer Lesia Ukrainka and is set to the music of Ukrainian composer Mykhailo Skorulskyi.

The composer skillfully reflects Ukrainian folk traditions and the musical heritage of the Volyn region. The emotionally rich score draws the audience into a poetic love story between the mythical forest spirit Mavka and the young man Lukash. Their story blends elements of fantasy and mysticism with a deeper metaphorical reflection on the relationship between humanity and the natural world. The development of their love mirrors the changing seasons, symbolizing the natural cycle of beginnings and endings.

The choreography includes complex duets, energetic jumps and turns, and intricate stage patterns. Folkloric tales of enchanted forest creatures come to life through graceful and expressive movements, creating a magical atmosphere on stage.

Each element of the production invites the audience into a mysterious and fantastical world inhabited by water nymphs, spirits, and forest beings — encouraging belief in the unseen forces of nature. The result is a captivating performance that appeals to both children and adults, offering a true fairy tale experience.
