1,096 cultural heritage sites in Ukraine have been damaged due to russian aggression

The Ministry of Culture and Information Policy continues to  document the damage to cultural heritage sites in Ukraine due to russian aggression. According to information provided by regional and Kyiv city military administrations, the total number of affected cultural heritage sites increased by 11 in July and now stands at 1,096.

Of these, 121 are of national importance, 892 are of local importance, and 83 are newly discovered.

Repeated strikes on previously damaged cultural heritage sites occurred in the Dnipropetrovsk region. New strikes were reported in the Kharkiv, Kherson, and Sumy regions.

To date, cultural heritage sites in 18 regions and Kyiv have suffered damage, including:

– Kharkiv region – 314

– Kherson region – 150

– Donetsk region – 125

– Odesa region – 116

– Chernihiv region – 69

– Kyiv region and the city of Kyiv – 69

– Zaporizhzhia region – 49

– Mykolaiv region – 45

– Dnipropetrovsk region – 39

– Lviv region – 36

– Luhansk region – 31

– Sumy region – 27

– Khmelnytskyi region – 10

– Poltava region – 6

– Vinnytsia region – 4

– Zhytomyr region – 4

– Kirovohrad region – 1

– Cherkasy region – 1

Updated information has been taken into account for sites that were previously damaged and are located in temporarily occupied territories and/or areas of active hostilities.

As of the end of July 2024, almost all of Luhansk region and significant parts of Zaporizhzhia, Donetsk, and Kherson regions remain under temporary occupation. This makes it impossible to accurately count the number of damaged cultural heritage sites affected by hostilities and occupation.
