The Ministry of Culture and Strategic Communications of Ukraine continues to document damage to Ukraine’s cultural heritage sites caused by russian aggression.
As reported by regional and Kyiv city military administrations, the total number of damaged cultural heritage sites increased by 43 in November, bringing the overall count to 1,222. This includes 124 sites of national significance, 1,024 of local significance, and 74 newly identified sites.
Repeated strikes targeted previously damaged cultural heritage sites in the Zaporizhzhia, Odesa, Khmelnytskyi, and Kherson regions. Meanwhile, new damage was recorded in the Dnipropetrovsk, Donetsk, Zaporizhzhia, Odesa, Sumy, Kharkiv, and Kherson regions.
To date, cultural heritage sites have been damaged in 18 regions and Kyiv, with the following regional breakdown:
Kharkiv region: 322
Kherson region: 159
Donetsk region: 164
Odesa region: 136
Chernihiv region: 65
Kyiv region and Kyiv city: 81
Zaporizhzhia region: 56
Mykolaiv region: 41
Dnipropetrovsk region: 49
Lviv region: 60
Luhansk region: 32
Sumy region: 31
Khmelnytskyi region: 10
Poltava region: 6
Vinnytsia and Zhytomyr regions: 4 each
Kirovohrad and Cherkasy regions: 1 each
As of late November 2024, nearly the entire Luhansk region and significant parts of the Zaporizhzhia, Donetsk, and Kherson regions remain under temporary occupation. This ongoing occupation prevents an accurate assessment of the total number of cultural heritage sites affected by hostilities and occupation.
