A Ukrainian-language audio guide will appear in the Louvre

On December 13, the Minister of Culture and Information Policy of Ukraine, Oleksandr Tkachenko, together with the Ukraine’s First Lady, Olena Zelenska, met with the President of the Louvre, Laurence de Carre, and signed a Memorandum on cooperation between the museum, MCIP and the Embassy of Ukraine in France. As a result, visitors to the Louvre will be able to explore the museum in Ukrainian.

It is not necessary to explain the significance for us of supporting and creating permanent connections with such a titan of the museum world as the Louvre. By the way, there are currently no audio guides in russian at the Louvre. However, it will be Ukrainian. The language of art and culture is universal. The Ukrainian language should be among the universal languages of the civilized world. Therefore, today the corresponding memorandum was signed between the Louvre, the MCIP and our Embassy in Paris,” said Oleksandr Tkachenko.

The memorandum also includes an item on expanding cooperation and multi-level partnership projects with museums of Ukraine. They will include programs of scientific analysis, an organization of a temporary exhibition in the Louvre and a publication of a scientific study devoted to Ukrainian art. This is a big step for building cultural ties between Ukraine and France.

“Last year, together with Mrs. Macron, we opened an audio guide at the Palace of Versailles. I hope that now a guide will be added to it also in the Louvre. During the war, this project is no longer about a convenient tourist option. This is a sign that Ukraine and the civilized world have a common language. The language of art and culture,” said Olena Zelenska.

It should be reminded that the Louvre is the largest museum in the world, it is visited by 8 million visitors every year.
