MCIP continues to record damage to cultural infrastructure in Ukraine as a result of russian aggression. Thus, as of December 25, 2022, 1,189 objects of cultural infrastructure suffered losses. Almost a third of them – 446 objects – were completely destroyed.
Cultural infrastructure suffered the greatest losses and damages in Donetsk, Kyiv, Kharkiv, Luhansk, Mykolaiv, Zaporizhzhia, Sumy and Kherson regions.
The largest group of cultural infrastructure objects that suffered damage or destruction are creative hubs – 47% of the total number of institutions of cultural infrastructure that were affected.
The following objects were affected:
• 563 creative hubs. Among them destroyed – 222; damaged – 341. The majority is in Donetsk (24%), Kharkiv (14%) and Kyiv (10%) regions;
• 453 libraries. Among them: destroyed – 155; damaged – 298. The majority is in Donetsk (27%), Kyiv (17%) and Mykolaiv (13%) regions;
• 63 museums and galleries. Among them: destroyed – 22; damaged – 41. The majority is in Donetsk (37%) and Kharkiv (11%) regions;
• 18 theaters and philharmonic halls. Among them: destroyed – 9; damaged – 9 in Dnipropetrovsk, Donetsk, Luhansk, Mykolaiv, Kharkiv regions. and the city of Kyiv;
• 92 institutions of art education. Among them: destroyed – 38; damaged – 54. The majority is in Donetsk (30%) and Kharkiv (14%) regions.
Currently, almost the entire territory of Luhansk and significant parts of the territories of Kherson, Zaporizhzhia and Donetsk regions are still under temporary occupation. Because of this, it is impossible to estimate the exact number of objects of cultural infrastructure affected during hostilities and occupation.
