On May 5, Oleksandr Tkachenko, the Minister of Culture and Information Policy of Ukraine, and his deputy Galyna Grygorenko had a meeting with the Mayor of Brussels Philippe Close and his team. The parties discussed further support for Ukraine in the fields of information policy and culture. It was also talked about preserving and restoring the cultural heritage of Ukraine, which is constantly being destroyed or damaged by the actions of the aggressor country.
Philippe Close and his delegation are not visiting Ukraine for the first time. Since the beginning of the full-scale war, Brussels has been providing not only political support, but also economic and humanitarian aid to Ukraine. This time, the Mayor of Brussels handed over modern ambulances to the Ukrainian capital to save the lives and health of civilians in Kyiv who are suffering from massive attacks by the aggressor country.
“In the morning I had a meeting with the Mayor of Brussels. Every meeting with an international partner is priceless, especially when such a partner is interested and immediately starts a conversation with particular proposals and plans. We discussed many areas of cooperation, including in the field of culture – the presentation of the Ukrainian block at the World Urban Summit this summer, as well as the organization of joint cultural projects, performances and exhibitions of Ukrainian art in Belgium. For example, the exhibition “In the whirlwind of the avant-garde”, which is successfully taking place in Madrid, will soon travel to Brussels. Our priority task remains the preservation and restoration of Ukraine’s cultural heritage,” said Oleksandr Tkachenko.
The Mayor of Brussel emphasized the need to establish bilateral horizontal cooperation “from city to city” between both countries. Such cooperation is more effective and faster than at the national level.
