On February 1, 2025, Uzhhorod hosted the first international Ukraine culture conference, “Cooperation for Resilience”. The event brought together 28 delegations from partner countries, along with representatives from the European Commission and UNESCO. Among them, 19 delegations were led by ministers or deputy ministers of culture, highlighting global support for Ukraine’s cultural resilience.
A key outcome of the Conference was the adoption of the “Declaration on Strengthening the Resilience of Ukraine’s Cultural Sector”. By February 5, 2025, 25 countries had joined, and the Declaration remains open to all partner nations and international organizations. This important document sets the stage for joint efforts between Ukraine and its global partners to preserve, protect, and restore the country’s cultural heritage and infrastructure.
The Declaration outlines key initiatives, including the creation of the Ukrainian Heritage Fund to support the restoration of museums and cultural landmarks. It also calls for an international coalition to prevent the illicit trafficking of Ukrainian cultural property in line with the 1970 UNESCO Convention. Additionally, it promotes a Platform for Cultural Recovery to coordinate recovery efforts and supports sanctions for crimes against cultural heritage.
The Declaration highlights the key role of culture in shaping national identity, strengthening social unity, and supporting economic growth. A strong cultural sector enhances Ukraine’s resilience on the global stage.
