On March 17, Andrii Nadzhos, Deputy Minister of Culture and Strategic Communications of Ukraine for European Integration, and Anastasia Bondar, Deputy Minister for Digital Development, Digital Transformation, and Digitalization, met with Guilherme Canela, Director of UNESCO’s Digital Inclusion and Policy Division, and Theresa Chorbacher, Project Officer at the UNESCO Office in Ukraine.

The meeting focused on supporting local media, addressing disinformation, dealing with Deep Fake technology and AI, regulating media and the internet, and digitizing Ukraine’s cultural heritage.
Andrii Nadzhos emphasized the importance of supporting local media in frontline areas and the need for continued cooperation with UNESCO and the EU to address these challenges.
“Amid the war in Ukraine, the media face numerous difficulties. It is crucial to find new sources of support after the suspension of American projects, which significantly impacted media in conflict zones. This threatens media stability and national security”, he stated.
He also expressed gratitude to UNESCO for its involvement in key initiatives such as “Coronavirus Facts” and “Social Media for Peace” and invited them to participate in the upcoming Kyiv Stratcom Forum.

Anastasia Bondar expressed gratitude to UNESCO for its support and highlighted the importance of regional administrations understanding relevant standards to work effectively with media and information.
“For projects to succeed, regional administrations must be equipped with knowledge of standards and strategic directions. This will help align efforts locally and improve cooperation”, she said.
In response, Guilherme Canela and Theresa Chorbacher outlined UNESCO’s continued support for Ukraine and expressed their readiness to engage in new initiatives and further expand cooperation.
