Due to russian aggression in Ukraine, 945 cultural heritage sites have been affected

The Ministry of Culture and Information Policy continues to document the damage to cultural heritage sites in Ukraine due to russian aggression. From February 24, 2022, to January 25, 2024, 945 cultural heritage sites have been either destroyed or damaged. Among them, 128 are of national importance, 742  – of local importance, and 75 – newly discovered ones.

Among them, architectural landmarks makeup 293 objects, architectural and urban planning – 269, historical – 236, architectural and historical – 33, monumental art – 25, urban planning and monumental art – 17, archaeological – 24, architectural, urban planning, and historical – 38, urban planning – 5, science and technology – 2, garden and park art – 1, architectural, urban planning, monumental art – 1, architectural, and monumental art – 1.

Cultural heritage sites are damaged or destroyed in 17 regions:

  • Kharkiv region – 235 damaged/ or destroyed cultural heritage sites (Bohodukhiv district – 6; Izium district – 14; Krasnohrad district – 2; Lozova district – 1; Kharkiv district – 197; Chuhuiv district – 15). Among them, there are 10 of national importance, 221 of local importance, and 4 recently discovered cultural heritage sites.
  • Donetsk region – 128 (Kramatorsk district – 44; Mariupol district – 27; Bakhmut district – 28; Pokrovsk district – 24; Volnovakha district – 5). Among them, there are 15 of national importance and 113 of local significance.
  • Odesa region – 119 (Bilhorod-Dnistrovskyi district – 1; Odesa district – 117; Izmail district – 1). Among them, there are 28 of national importance and 91 of local importance.
  • Kherson region – 116 (Beryslav district – 18; Kakhovka – 35; Kherson – 63). Among them, there are 17 of national importance, 64 of local importance, and 35 recently discovered cultural heritage objects.
  • Chernihiv region – 70 (Chernihiv district – 63; Koriukivka – 1; Novhorod-Siverskyi – 2; Nizhyn – 3; Pryluky – 1). Among them, there are 27 of national importance, 37 of local importance, and 6 recently discovered cultural heritage objects.
  • Kyiv region – 69 (Bila Tserkva district – 1; Brovary district – 5; Bucha district – 14; Vyshhorod district – 6, Kyiv City – 43). Among them, there are 16 of national importance, 37 of local importance, and 16 recently discovered cultural heritage objects.
  • Zaporizhzhia region – 38 sites of local importance (Vasylivka district – 12; Zaporizhzhia district – 15; Polohy district – 10; Melitopol district – 1).
  • Lviv region – 36 (Zolochiv district – 1; Stryi district – 1; Lviv district – 34). Among them, there are 2 of national importance and 34 of local importance.
  • Dnipropetrovsk region – 34 (Dnipro district – 15; Kryvyi Rih district- 4; Nikopol district – 14; Pavlograd district – 1). Among them are 1 of national importance, 27 of local importance, and 6 recently discovered cultural heritage objects.
  • Luhansk region – 31 objects of local importance (Svatove district – 5; Sievierodonetsk district – 24; Shchastia district – 2).
  • Sumy region – 25 (Konotop district – 5; Okhtyrka district – 12; Sumy district – 7; Shostka district – 1). Among them are 5 of national importance and 20 of local importance.
  • Mykolaiv region – 23 (Mykolaiv district – 23). Among them are 3 of national importance, 16 of local importance, and 4 recently discovered cultural heritage objects.
  • Khmelnytskyi region – 10 (Shepetivka district – 2; Khmelnytskyi district – 8). Among them are 1 of national importance, 6 of local importance, and 3 recently discovered cultural heritage objects.
  • Vinnytsia region – 4 (Vinnytsia district – 4). Among them are 1 of national importance and 3 of local importance.
  • Poltava region – 4 (Kremenchuk district – 4), including 1 of national importance, 2 of local importance, and 1 newly discovered cultural heritage object.
  • Zhytomyr region – 2 (Korosten district – 2). Among them are 1 of national importance and 1 of local importance.
  • Kirovohrad region – 1 (Oleksandriia district – 1). Among them – 1 of local importance.
