How Ukraine and the USA plan to preserve historical heritage for future generations

On September 20, in Naples, during the G7 Culture Ministerial, the Minister of Culture and Strategic Communications of Ukraine, Mykola Tochytskyi, held bilateral talks with Under Secretary of State for Public Diplomacy and Public Affairs, Lee Satterfield. The meeting addressed the preservation of Ukraine’s cultural heritage, challenges posed by russian aggression, and ways to strengthen cultural diplomacy between Ukraine and the USA.

The Minister of Culture and Strategic Communications of Ukraine, Mykola Tochytskyi, emphasized the importance of documenting the destruction caused by russia for future international investigations.

“Our task is not only to protect cultural heritage but also to convey to the world that as a nation with a thousand-year history, we are fighting not just for territory, but for our identity,” said Mykola Tochytskyi.

In turn, Under Secretary of State for Public Diplomacy and Public Affairs, Lee Satterfield, emphasized the importance of supporting not only defense initiatives but also Ukraine’s cultural projects, underscoring that this war is not only about territory but also about the fight for the country’s historical heritage.

“This war is aimed at destroying culture and identity, which is why we are investing in the protection of Ukrainian cultural heritage, as it is also one of the key aspects of this war,” said Lee Satterfield.

Special attention was given to the achievements of Ukrainian filmmakers, who continue to create documentary films about the war, showcasing the true voice of the Ukrainian people to an international audience. Satterfield emphasized the importance of countering russian disinformation through collaboration in strategic communications.

The U.S. expressed its readiness to continue supporting Ukraine in the cultural and informational sectors, helping to counter russian propaganda.
