KYODO NEWS to expand coverage of events in Ukraine

On November 29, Andrii Nadzhos, the Deputy Minister of Culture and Strategic Communications for European Integration of Ukraine, met with Toshimitsu Sawai, Head of the International Department at Japan’s KYODO NEWS.

The meeting focused on enhancing cultural and strategic communication ties between Ukraine and Japan. The participants highlighted the crucial role KYODO NEWS has played in keeping the Japanese public informed about the situation in Ukraine since the onset of the full-scale invasion.

“We greatly appreciate KYODO NEWS’s decision to establish a correspondent bureau in Ukraine. This step significantly improves the Japanese people’s understanding of the realities caused by russia’s unprovoked war against our country. We see Japan and its people standing firmly with Ukraine in its fight against the aggressor, especially within the framework of the G7. We are confident that Japan’s media presence in Ukraine will continue to expand, and our Ministry stands ready to actively support this expansion in every possible way,” said Nadzhos.

The discussion also centered on the development of new joint initiatives to foster mutual understanding, promotion of knowledge exchange between the two nations, and countering disinformation. Additionally, the participants explored ways to enhance the visibility of Ukrainian culture in Japan’s media landscape.

It should be noted that KYODO NEWS plays a pivotal role in covering events in Ukraine. Its Ukrainian bureau began operations in Kyiv in October 2023.
