“Looking in the same direction”: Oleksandr Tkachenko on cooperation between Ukraine and Sweden in the cultural sphere

The Minister of Culture and Information Policy of Ukraine Oleksandr Tkachenko discussed with his Swedish colleague Parisa Liljestrand the current and future cooperation between the countries in the cultural sphere.

On January 1, Sweden began its six-month presidency of the Council of the European Union. Swedish Prime Minister Ulf Kristersson clearly stated that comprehensive assistance to Ukraine in its fight against russian aggression, political, economic and humanitarian aid will remain among the priorities of the Swedish presidency.

“I also heard this position at a meeting with the Minister of Culture Parisa Liljestrand. We spoke about the preservation of heritage, the needs of the industry within the country – artists and institutions, the promotion of Ukrainian culture in Sweden, the support of Ukrainian media, and the formula proposed to allocate 1% of the budgets for the culture of EU countries to the cultural sphere of Ukraine. Thank you for looking in the same direction and preparing for fruitful cooperation in the next six months and beyond,” said the Minister.
