The Ministry of Culture and Information Policy held a meeting with the United Nations Development Program (UNDP) team in Ukraine. The parties discussed current and future joint projects, and also agreed to continue cooperation in key areas in 2023.
During the meeting, Oleksandr Tkachenko, Minister of Culture and Information Policy, underlined four key priorities of the Ministry for 2023:
• protection of cultural heritage;
• support to the cultural sphere inside the country;
• digitalization of culture, arts, heritage and media;
• countering disinformation and sanctions against russian propaganda.
Currently the cultural and media spheres in Ukraine face challenges due to significant economy downfall, active russian propaganda and misinformation campaigns launched by the russian federation. Nevertheless, the cultural and media sectors, as well as Ukrainian society in general, demonstrate resilience and confidence.
Oleksandr Tkachenko expressed gratitude to UNDP for the support provided to the Ministry during the previous years and emphasized strengthening of cooperation in the nearest future.
“The already provided support from our long-time partner UNDP contributed to Ukraine’s achievements in countering disinformation and developing media literacy and building a more sustainable society. We also count on further cooperation and appreciate the readiness of UNDP to assist the Ministry in the rapid process of recovery of the country,” the Minister said.
The Permanent Representative of the UNDP in Ukraine, Jako Silje, in turn noted the active role of the MCIP in countering disinformation, ensuring information security and developing media literacy among the population. He also confirmed UNDP’s support and readiness to help build sustainable government communication to counter disinformation and increase the resilience of Ukrainian society.
Jako Silje also announced and confirmed UNDP’s strong support for the national media literacy project Filter by the MCIP, aimed at increasing the level of media literacy among the population.
The Permanent Representative of UNDP welcomed the efforts of the MCIP to preserve and restore Ukrainian cultural heritage and confirmed that UNDP is always ready to provide support in the assessment of damage to cultural heritage and its restoration and reconstruction.
