Meeting of the Ministers of Culture of Ukraine and Poland: new initiatives and support for cultural heritage

On March 5, the Minister of Culture and Strategic Communications of Ukraine, Mykola Tochytskyi, met with Hanna Wróblewska, the Minister of Culture and National Heritage of the Republic of Poland, in Kyiv.

They discussed ways to strengthen Ukrainian-Polish cultural ties, focusing on preserving shared historical heritage and protecting important monuments.

Ukraine’s Minister expressed gratitude to the Polish side for inviting Ukraine to the informal meeting of EU Ministers of Culture in Warsaw on April 7-8. This meeting will be an important step toward URC 2025 and provide an opportunity to discuss the challenges facing the cultural sector during the ongoing war.

Mykola Tochytsky also thanked Hanna Wróblewska for her personal involvement in the “Cooperation for Resilience” Culture Conference in Uzhhorod on February 1, and for Poland’s support of the Declaration on Strengthening Cultural Resilience in Ukraine, adopted after the Conference.

The two sides discussed particular collaborative projects between their cultural institutions, including joint museum exhibitions and theater co-productions. Both ministers praised the quality of current projects and expressed optimism for future initiatives.

The conversation also focused on cooperation in digital transformation and documenting damage to cultural heritage, especially the destruction caused by the ongoing war. This discussion is part of a broader initiative under the Memorandum of Cooperation on the Inventory of Architectural and Archaeological Losses.

Additionally, the participants discussed sanctions related to crimes against cultural heritage.

The Polish side reaffirmed its commitment to strengthening bilateral cooperation, particularly in areas such as cultural heritage protection, preserving historical memory, and digital transformation.
