On July 10 in Rome, during a panel at the Ukraine Recovery Conference (URC2025), the Minister of Culture of Italy Alessandro Giuli presented a symbolic gift to the Minister of Culture and Strategic Communications of UKraine, Mykola Tochytskyi, for President Volodymyr Zelenskyy — a replica of the famous Boxer at Rest sculpture.

The original, a Roman Hellenistic masterpiece housed in the National Roman Museum, is protected by law, and making copies is normally forbidden. Special permission was granted by Italy’s Cabinet of Ministers — the first time ever.

Boxer at Rest portrays a tired but unbroken fighter. His expression shows pain, but also determination. He fights not just for himself, but for something greater — his homeland. This message deeply resonates with Ukrainians today as they continue to resist russian aggression.
Alessandro Giuli noted that the sculpture is more than art — it symbolizes resilience, strength, and dignity. He expressed Italy’s belief that, like the boxer, Ukraine will one day rest, recover, and rebuild — stronger and proud.
This gesture reflects Italy’s deep respect for Ukraine and its continued support for the country’s recovery and fight for freedom.
