Ministers of Culture from Ukraine, Spain, Germany, and Slovenia join forces to protect and restore Ukrainian culture

On February 13, during an official visit to Germany, Mykola Tochytskyi, the Minister of Culture and Strategic Communications of Ukraine, met with Claudia Roth, the Federal Government Commissioner for Culture and Media of Germany, State Minister, Ernest Urtasun Domènech, the Minister of Culture of Spain, and Asta Vrečko, the Minister of Culture of Slovenia.  

Mykola Tochytskyi expressed gratitude to his European counterparts for attending the “Cooperation for Resilience” Conference on February 1 in Uzhhorod and supporting the “Declaration on Strengthening the Resilience of the Cultural Sector in Ukraine”. This initiative reinforces joint efforts to protect and restore Ukrainian culture, particularly its rich heritage.

The ministers emphasized the urgent need for global cooperation to combat crimes against culture, a growing concern amid ongoing challenges.  

Ukraine’s Minister also highlighted Ukraine’s sanctions against 55 russian nationals and three museums operating under russian jurisdiction in the temporarily occupied territories.  

A key topic was the financial stability of Ukrainian media. The Minister emphasized the urgent need for consultations with European donors to develop emergency funding mechanisms for independent press.  

The ministers also discussed cultural projects for social rehabilitation, focusing on veterans, military families, and people with disabilities.  

The officials reaffirmed their commitment to cultural resilience, international solidarity, and the essential role of culture in times of crisis.
