On October 10, the Minister of Culture and Strategic Communications Mykola Tochytskyi held online meeting with the Federal Commissioner for Culture and Media of Germany, Minister of State Claudia Roth. The discussion focused on the preservation and restoration of Ukraine’s cultural heritage affected by russian aggression, as well as the further development of cooperation.
Mykola Tochitskyi expressed gratitude for Germany’s significant contribution to the protection of Ukrainian cultural heritage, particularly for organizing the Ukraine Recovery Conference in Berlin in June 2024.
“The recovery of the cultural heritage which continues to be destroyed by russia is an important challenge that requires united efforts on a global level,” Mykola Tochytskyi noted.
For her part, Claudia Roth expressed her heartfelt support for Ukraine and emphasized the readiness for further cooperation in the restoration of the cultural sector.
“We understand that this is a war against Ukrainian culture and identity. Therefore, we will continue to stand with you in this struggle,” Claudia Roth stated. “Ukrainian culture is the voice of Ukrainian democracy, and it is precisely that which the aggressor wants to destroy,” she added.
Mykola Tochytskyi also invited Germany to participate in the establishing of the cultural and humanitarian coalition, which aims to improve further coordination of cultural sector resilience efforts following up all previous international calls and commitments.
“It is important to give due attention to the issues of protecting Ukraine’s historical and cultural heritage within the framework of international discussions on Ukraine’s recovery. Preservation of culture is an essential element of Ukraine’s victory,” Mykola Tochytskyi emphasized.
