Mykola Tochytskyi met with Irish Ambassador to discuss cultural cooperation

On February 6, Mykola Tochytskyi, the Minister of Culture and Strategic Communications of Ukraine, met with Jonathan Conlon, Ambassador Extraordinary and Plenipotentiary of Ireland to Ukraine, to discuss cooperation in culture and strategic communications.  

Mykola Tochytskyi shared the results of the “Cooperation for Resilience” Conference, held on February 1–2 in Uzhhorod, where 26 countries supported the “Declaration on Strengthening Ukraine’s Cultural Sector”. One key point was the creation of a coalition to fight against illicit trafficking in Ukrainian cultural property.  

The Minister also emphasized the heavy damage russian aggression had caused to Ukraine’s cultural heritage. By late January 2025 1,333 heritage sites and 2,185 cultural facilities had been affected He stressed the need for restoration experts and specialists in cultural asset evacuation and proposed cooperation with Ireland on training programs.  

Ukraine’s Minister expressed gratitude to Ireland for its strong support of Ukraine, especially its aid to Ukrainians displaced by the war.  

Both sides noted the success of Ukrainian theater tours in Ireland and reaffirmed their commitment to expanding cultural cooperation.
