Mykola Tochytskyi, the Minister of Culture and Strategic Communications of Ukraine, met with Mathieu Mori, the Secretary General of the Congress of Local and Regional Authorities of the Council of Europe, in Strasbourg. They discussed opportunities for cooperation in the cultural sector, focusing on the preservation and restoration of Ukraine’s cultural heritage.

The Minister expressed his gratitude to the Congress for its support and for adopting the Declaration on the Destruction of Cultural Heritage in Ukraine on October 15, 2024.
“I am confident that, in line with the adopted Declaration, local and regional authorities across Europe will enhance their efforts to assist Ukraine and forge effective partnerships in the field of cultural heritage”, stated Mykola Tochytskyi.
Mathieu Mori emphasized the importance of the Register of Damages resulting from the russian federation’s aggression against Ukraine, which is crucial for holding the aggressor accountable and restoring the Ukrainian cultural sector. He noted that the Congress is actively supporting Ukraine in this effort and stressed the significance of Council of Europe member states joining the Nicosia Convention and the Faro Convention to preserve cultural heritage.
Mykola Tochytskyi announced Ukraine’s plan to organize a conference for the culture ministers of Council of Europe member states and G7 countries in early February 2025. The conference aims to discuss further coordination of international efforts to restore Ukraine’s cultural sector, which continues to face destruction from systematic attacks by russia.
The meeting represented a significant advancement in strengthening cooperation between Ukraine and its international partners to protect and restore Ukrainian cultural heritage.
