On July 2, the Minister of Culture and Strategic Communications of Ukraine, Mykola Tochytskyi, held a meeting with the Ambassador of the Republic of Korea to Ukraine, Kichang Park.

During the meeting, the parties discussed the protection of Ukraine’s cultural heritage amid the full-scale war, as well as prospects for further bilateral cooperation in the fields of culture and strategic communications.
The Minister expressed his gratitude to the Government of the Republic of Korea for its consistent support of Ukraine, particularly for its substantial humanitarian assistance and openness to partnership. He briefed the Ambassador on the significant damage sustained by Ukraine’s cultural heritage and infrastructure, and outlined ongoing preservation efforts — including the digitization of cultural heritage sites and museum collections, and active international cooperation to combat the illicit trafficking of cultural property.

In the context of expanding international cooperation, Mykola Tochytskyi invited the Korean side to join the Cultural Coalition, the next phase of which will take place on July 10–11 in Rome as part of the Ukraine Recovery Conference. Among the key initiatives discussed was the establishment of the Ukrainian Cultural Heritage Fund, aimed at preserving, protecting, and promoting Ukraine’s cultural heritage.
Both sides emphasized their mutual interest in enhancing bilateral cultural collaboration, including through joint exhibitions, theater productions, and translation projects. Special attention was given to potential cooperation in the field of restoration, with opportunities for Ukrainian specialists to undergo training in South Korea.

Kichang Park reaffirmed South Korea’s commitment to supporting Ukraine, particularly through cultural and educational initiatives, and underscored the importance of protecting culture as a vital element in shaping national identity. He also extended his best wishes for the successful hosting of the Ukraine Recovery Conference in Rome and confirmed that South Korea will be represented at the event by an official government delegation.
The parties reaffirmed their shared interest in developing long-term Ukrainian–Korean humanitarian cooperation.
