Mykola Tochytskyi met with the leadership of the European External Action Service

Mykola Tochytskyi, the Minister of Culture and Strategic Communications of Ukraine, met with Simon Mordue, Deputy Secretary-General of the European External Action Service (EEAS) in Brussels on December 9. The discussion focused on strengthening cooperation between Ukraine and the EU in the fields of culture and strategic communications.

“We are grateful to our European partners for their unequivocal recognition of russian aggressive war against Ukraine as a flagrant violation of international law, an attack on fundamental EU values, and a direct threat to Ukraine’s culture and heritage. russia’s actions are not just acts of military aggression – they are attacks on our history and identity”,  underscored Ukraine’s Minister.

Both parties stressed the importance of strengthening cooperation between the  Ministry of Culture and Strategic Communications of Ukraine and the EEAS to address hybrid threats, including russian disinformation, cyberattacks, and propaganda dissemination. 

 “I am grateful to the EU for its commitment to develop new communication channels in these crucial areas. Enhancing Ukraine’s informational resilience is essential for achieving a just and lasting peace”, stated Mykola Tochytskyi.

The Minister called on the European Union to expand sanctions against russian officials and cultural representatives accountable for crimes against Ukrainian culture. He also highlighted the necessity for collective efforts to address challenges endangering Europe’s security and stability. The Ukrainian side presented comprehensive proposals for joint sanctions initiatives, which are expected to shape upcoming EU sanctions packages.

Mykola Tochytskyi further emphasized the enhanced collaboration between the MCSC and national law enforcement agencies in investigating crimes against Ukrainian culture.

At the conclusion of the meeting, he expressed his gratitude to the EU for its solidarity with Ukraine, its significant military and financial assistance in response to russian aggression, and its efforts to protect Ukraine’s cultural heritage.
