On December 17, the final of the National Selection for Eurovision 2023 took place. During the live broadcast on Ukrainian national broadcaster Suspilne, Ukrainians were able to vote for their favorite candidate online, in the Diia application. This year, the audience in the app decided 50% of the result, and the jury in the hall accounted for the other 50%. According to the results of the audience voting and the selection of the jury, the band TVORCHI, which will represent Ukraine at the contest in Liverpool, became the winner. More than 166,000 votes were counted for the band.
“We really hoped to host Eurovision in Ukraine this year, because we have won not only the musical sympathy of Europe and the whole civilized world. Actually, due to russia’s aggressive war against Ukraine, in particular security issues, the management of the contest decided to hold the contest in friendly Great Britain. The colossal support given to us by this country will forever remain in our hearts. At the same time, no enemy missiles will be able to extinguish the energy of freedom of free and strong Ukrainians. Despite everything, the National Selection took place and I sincerely congratulate the winner and wish them to represent Ukraine with dignity already in May 2023 in Liverpool,” said Oleksandr Tkachenko, Minister of Culture and Information Policy of Ukraine.
Users of the Diia application both in Ukraine and abroad could vote for a participant in the National Selection. Based on the voting results, a rating table is formed, where each participant receives from 1 to 10 points depending on the number of votes. The results of the audience’s votes are then added to the results of the jury’s voting, which assigns points without having access to the audience’s ratings. After that, the overall result is established, based on the results of which the winner of the National Selection is determined.
TVORCHI, Jerry Heil and KRUTь became the favorites according to the results of the audience’s vote in the Diia app. TVORCHI, Jerry Heil and KRUTь were among the top three according to the joint evaluations of the audience and the jury.
It should be reminded that previously Ukrainians had to send SMS or call in order to vote for a candidate. This year, the procedure has been simplified to a few clicks in the application. Voting in the Diia app was implemented by the Ministry of Digital Affairs together with the Ministry of Culture and Information Policy of Ukraine and Ukrainian national broadcaster Suspilne.
