Recommendations for improving the work of foreign media in Ukraine were presented in Kyiv

The Center for Strategic Communications and Information Security under MCIP together with the Kyiv International Institute of Sociology (KIIS) interviewed foreign journalists from 28 countries who worked in Ukraine in 2022. Today, a presentation of the survey results was held at Media Center Ukraine – Ukrinform.

The survey was conducted in September-December 2022 by KIIS among foreign journalists about their experience of communication with representatives of the authorities in Ukraine, as well as about the problems they face while working in Ukraine in time of full-scale war.

A total of 55 foreign journalists from 28 countries were interviewed using in-depth interviews (among all representatives of the media sphere, 48% were journalists, 45% were reporters/correspondents and 5 – fixers).

Most of those who took part in the survey were representatives from the USA (8%), Spain and Poland (6% each), the remaining representatives (less than 5%) – from various European countries and the Group of Seven.

“I am grateful to all foreign journalists who have been covering the events of the russian-Ukrainian war throughout the entire period. The presented conclusions will obviously become a guide for us, so that we, together with various departments, can process the research findings and make the work of foreign journalists in Ukraine more comfortable from the point of view of organizing this work,” said Oleksandr Tkachenko, Minister of Culture and Information Policy of Ukraine.

In turn, the Head of the Center for Strategic Communications, Ihor Solovei, emphasized that one of the main goals of this survey is to gather in one place all problematic questions that arise for foreign journalists and to create a kind of cheat sheet for representatives of state institutions involved in the process of working with foreign mass media.

“This survey will be written in 2023 as well, and I ask you to consider it as an invitation to discussion, cooperation and improvement,” added Ihor Solovei.
