The European Commission has confirmed Ukraine’s participation in all activities of the EU’s «Creative Europe» program, including the «Media» strand

Today, June 17, the Directorate-General for Communications Networks, Content and Technology of the European Commission officially informed Ukraine’s Ministry of Culture and Information Policy about the European Commission’s approval for Ukraine’s full participation in all activities of the EU’s «Creative Europe» program (2021-2027), including the «Media» strand

Under the Agreement between Ukraine and the EU on Ukraine’s participation in the «Creative Europe» program, signed on December 15, 2021, Ukrainian organizations gained the right to participate in the «Culture» and «Cross-Sectoral Cooperation» subprogram competitions. However, their participation in the «Media» subprogram remained limited until the completion of Ukraine’s process of aligning its national legislation in the audiovisual sector with EU legislation.

Overall, the decision resulted from the European Commission’s positive assessment of Ukraine’s progress in aligning its national legislation on audiovisual matters with the requirements of the EU’s Audiovisual Media Services Directive.

«Creative Europe» is the European Union’s framework program aimed at supporting and enhancing the competitiveness of the European cultural, creative, and audiovisual sectors, as well as preserving, developing, and promoting the cultural and linguistic diversity of European countries.

The program is the main funding tool for the cultural sector, with a total budget of €2.44 billion for the years 2021–2027.

It is worth noting that Ukraine has been participating in the EU’s «Creative Europe» program since 2016.
