Mykola Tochytskyi, the Minister of Culture and Strategic Communications of Ukraine, met with Nela Riehl, Chair of the European Parliament’s Committee on Culture and Education, in Brussels on December 10. They discussed important issues related to cooperation between Ukraine and the EU in the cultural sector.

Mykola Tochytskyi expressed gratitude to the European Parliament for its support of Ukraine and stressed the importance of enhancing cooperation on joint cultural projects. He noted that Ukraine is counting on EU assistance to investigate and hold accountable those responsible for crimes against its cultural heritage.
“The voice of the European Parliament carries significant weight worldwide, and we in Ukraine appreciate the bold and crucial decisions made by the Parliament to support our fight against the aggressor and strengthen our institutional capacities. We also look forward to actively collaborating with the European Parliament to protect Ukraine’s cultural heritage, which is an essential part of our shared European cultural heritage,” emphasized Mykola Tochytskyi.
The parties also discussed the necessity for better coordination between the relevant committees of the European Parliament and the Verkhovna Rada of Ukraine.
The Minister noted that the Ministry of Culture and Strategic Communications of Ukraine is currently developing a Cultural Development Strategy for 2025-2030.
Mykola Tochytskyi also emphasized that Ukraine is working to prioritize cultural issues at the Recovery Conference in Rome in July 2025.
The meeting underscored the importance of strategic cooperation between Ukraine and the European Union in restoring and preserving cultural heritage, enhancing cultural collaboration, and strengthening inter-parliamentary ties at the committee level focused on culture.
