The Ministers of Culture of Ukraine and Denmark had a phone call

On April 3, Mykola Tochytskyi, Minister of Culture and Strategic Communications of Ukraine, held a telephone conversation with Jakob Engel-Schmidt, Minister of Culture of the Kingdom of Denmark.

The ministers discussed key areas of bilateral cooperation, focusing on support for Ukraine’s European integration and international efforts to preserve cultural heritage affected by russian aggression.

Mykola Tochytskyi expressed his gratitude for Denmark’s participation in the new Ukraine2EU program, which was jointly initiated by the European Union, Denmark, Lithuania, and Sweden to support Ukraine’s EU integration. With a budget of €16.7 million, this three-year initiative will play a vital role in advancing Ukraine’s path to EU membership.

Ukraine’s Minister also acknowledged Denmark’s participation in the inaugural international conference, “Cooperation for Resilience”, held on February 1, 2025, in Uzhhorod, and thanked them for signing the Declaration on Strengthening Cultural Sector Resilience in Ukraine, adopted during the Conference.

Mykola Tochytskyi emphasized the importance of the Declaration in promoting international cultural cooperation. “Today, it is essential to enhance international support for Ukraine’s cultural heritage, assess damages and losses, and strengthen collaboration in combating the illicit trafficking of cultural property”, he stated.

The ministers also discussed further opportunities for collaboration between museums in their countries, particularly in organizing joint exhibitions. A notable example of this partnership was the “Rus – Vikings in the East” exhibition, which featured 15 museums from nine EU countries, including the National Museum of the History of Ukraine. This successful exhibition took place at the Moesgaard Museum in Aarhus, Denmark, in 2022, showcasing the richness of cross-border cultural exchange.
