Ukraine and Austria agreed on joint cultural projects for 2025–2030

On January 15, during her official visit to Vienna, Galyna Grygorenko, the First Deputy Minister of Culture and Strategic Communications of Ukraine, met with Werner Kogler, the Federal Minister for Arts, Culture, Civil Service, and Sport of the Republic of Austria.

The officials signed a Letter of Intent as part of the Cooperation Program for education, science, and culture between the Cabinet of Ministers of Ukraine and the Government of the Republic of Austria for 2025–2030.

The Letter of Intent outlines key priorities for future cultural cooperation, including:

– artist residency exchange: establishing a program to annually send one or two artists to the partner country for a specified period.

– cultural internships: offering two-month internships for Ukrainian cultural workers and artists at leading Austrian institutions, including personalized mentorship.

– Kyiv Biennale: organizing the Kyiv Biennale in collaboration with European museums, including an Austrian museum, with support planned for 2025, 2027, and 2029.

– cultural heritage and Baukultur exchange: facilitating knowledge-sharing through the Joint Committee’s program or online to adopt advanced approaches and technologies for developing a Baukultur model in Ukraine.

– European collaboration: promoting joint initiatives through the “Creative Europe” Program.

– performing arts festivals: enhancing Ukraine’s participation in music, theater, and other performing arts festivals in Austria.

– museum partnerships: fostering scientific exchange, promoting cultural heritage, and facilitating intercultural dialogue through museum collaboration.

Galyna Grygorenko invited Werner Kogler to a conference of culture ministers scheduled for early February in Ukraine. She remarked, “Coordinating efforts with our partners is essential. That’s why we established the Ukraine Culture Conference, a regular platform for sharing information and knowledge. This event will tackle shared challenges, explore opportunities in the cultural sector, and focus on restoring cultural heritage and supporting artists in Ukraine”.

On January 15, 2025, during the inaugural session of the Joint Committee, the parties officially signed the Cooperation Program for education, science, and culture between the Cabinet of Ministers of Ukraine and the Government of the Republic of Austria for 2025–2030.
