Ukraine and Croatia will strengthen and activate cooperation in the field of protection, preservation, and restoration of cultural heritage

A phone conversation took place between the Minister of Culture and Strategic Communications of Ukraine, Mykola Tochytskyi, and the Minister of Culture and Media of the Republic of Croatia, Nina Obuljen Koržinek. The officials discussed the preservation of Ukraine’s cultural heritage, which continues to suffer destruction due to russian aggression.

Mykola Tochytskyi expressed gratitude to the government of the Republic of Croatia for its support and solidarity with Ukraine, particularly for its participation in international initiatives aimed at preserving cultural heritage, such as the “Vilnius Call for Action on the Recovery of the Cultural Sector of Ukraine,” which has already been joined by over 40 countries.

“In Ukraine, we greatly appreciate Croatia’s support and solidarity with Ukrainian people in this fight for our existence. The experience of Croatia in safeguarding cultural heritage during armed conflicts is extremely important to us,” emphasized Mykola Tochytskyi.

In turn, Nina Obuljen Koržinek highlighted her willingness to offer comprehensive support and share expertise on the protection, return, and restoration of cultural heritage objects.

“From the very first days of the war, the entire Croatian people have sincerely and wholeheartedly supported Ukraine in its struggle against russian aggression. We understand that the true aim of this war is to destroy your identity as a nation,” emphasized Nina Obuljen Koržinek.

The ministers discussed concrete steps to strengthen the coordination of international efforts to protect Ukraine’s cultural heritage from the war.
