On February 1, at the “Cooperation for Resilience” Conference in Uzhhorod, Mykola Tochytskyi, the Minister of Culture and Strategic Communications of Ukraine, met with Sergiu Prodan, the Minister of Culture of Moldova, to strengthen cultural ties.

Mykola Tochytskyi expressed gratitude to his Moldovan counterpart for joining the conference and supporting efforts to preserve Ukraine’s cultural heritage.
They discussed expanding theater cooperation, focusing on joint productions with drama and opera ensembles from both countries. Sergiu Prodan noted the growing popularity of Ukrainian theater in Moldova and the strong interest of local venues in deeper collaboration. Mykola Tochytskyi emphasized that artistic partnerships help strengthen cultural ties between nations.

The ministers emphasized the importance of collaboration in publishing. Through Ukraine’s “Ukrainian Bookshelf” and “Books Without Borders” initiatives, supported by First Lady Olena Zelenska, Moldova has received a significant number of Ukrainian-language books. This has led to the establishment of nearly 70 Ukrainian Bookshelves in Moldova and enhanced Ukrainian-language collections in libraries and schools where the language is taught. They also discussed supporting translations to publish Ukrainian literature in Romanian and Moldovan works in Ukrainian.
Additionally, the ministers looked for ways to involve Moldovan experts in restoring Ukraine’s cultural heritage sites damaged by the war, reinforcing their shared commitment to cultural preservation.
