Ukraine and the EU: a meeting focused on sectoral cooperation was recently held

On November 20, the 9th meeting of Cluster 4 of the Subcommittee on Economy and Other Sectoral Cooperation of the Association Committee between Ukraine and the European Union took place. The event was attended by Andrii Nadzhos, Deputy Minister of Culture and Strategic Communications of Ukraine for European Integration.

Key topics on the agenda included science and technology, information society, audiovisual policy, education and youth, culture, and sports.

During the meeting, the Deputy Minister emphasized Ukraine’s achievements in EU programs, particularly the Creative Europe program, which supports cultural, creative, and audiovisual sectors.

He emphasized that “Ukrainian cultural heritage is  an integral part of European and global culture. By losing Ukraine’s cultural heritage, Europe loses a part of its own culture, historical memory, achievements and values. That is why it is so important to preserve and protect Ukrainian cultural heritage in the face of the enemy’s deliberate and purposeful intention to eradicate everything Ukrainian”.

Andrii Nadzhos underscored Ukraine’s advancements in aligning its media legislation with EU standards and implementing reforms in the media sector. He highlighted the progress made in enhancing the legal framework and Ukraine’s readiness to build a resilient, post-war media landscape.

The parties reviewed the operational conclusions of the meeting and agreed to continue efforts to strengthen cooperation in the identified areas of bilateral activity.

Additionally, the Ukrainian side updated  European partners on progress in implementing the European Commission’s recommendations outlined in Ukraine’s Report within the 2023 Enlargement Package. They also provided updates on fulfilling the indicators of Ukraine’s Plan under the Ukraine Facility instrument and the ongoing official screening by the European Commission regarding the alignment of Ukrainian legislation with EU law.
