Ukraine-EU: Mykola Tochytskyi met with  Marta Kos, the newly appointed EU Commissioner for Enlargement, in Brussels

Mykola Tochytskyi, the Minister of Culture and Strategic Communications of Ukraine, met with Marta Kos, the newly appointed EU Commissioner for Enlargement, in Brussels on December 10. Ukraine’s Minister congratulated the Commissioner on her appointment to this crucial position for Ukraine.

This meeting is essential for developing new communication channels with Marta Kos and fostering a sustainable dialogue promoting Ukraine’s European integration efforts.

“It is crucial for me to build relationships with representatives of the new European Commission, and I am grateful to the Commissioner for providing this opportunity. The preservation of cultural heritage and the advancement of audiovisual legislative reforms are central to our joint efforts to bring Ukraine closer to full EU membership”, stated the Minister.

Mykola Tochytskyi expressed his gratitude to the EU for its significant financial and political support during the ongoing russian armed aggression against Ukraine.

The Minister highlighted Ukraine’s strong commitment to adopting European approaches to cultural heritage protection and advancing creative industries. Initiatives are underway to adapt legislation focused on strengthening the protection of historical monuments, preserving intangible heritage, fostering cultural exchanges, and training specialists in restoration.

“We rely on the EU’s support to realize our ambitious plans for preserving our cultural heritage. I am confident that the EU is equally committed to this goal”, emphasized the Minister.

Mykola Tochytskyi noted that Ukraine has made considerable progress in aligning its media legislation with EU standards and is actively working to improve its regulatory framework.

Both parties emphasized the importance of initiating the first cluster (“Foundations”) of Ukraine’s EU accession negotiations at the outset of Poland’s presidency of the EU Council in 2025.
