Today, 21 September, in the Ministry of Information Policy of Ukraine an open meeting of the working group on elaboration of proposals on sanctions against media representatives was held.
Yurii Stets: “The list of journalists who fit under sanctions is not correct. Because of this matter, today we have gathered a working group. We have to fix this, because the people and state authorities, who can correct their own mistakes, are not indifferent to the fate of their country”.
MP of Ukraine, first deputy chairman of the Committee on freedom of speech and information policy Olha Chervakova also emphasized the need of improvement of the sanctions list and discussion of preventive mechanisms, which in future will help to avoid such mistakes.
Sergii Kostynskyi, a member of the National Television and Radio Broadcasting Council said: “Filter of legislative acts should be intensified for journalists who spread myths and false information, because it is a tool that will allow to protect our citizens”.
In turn, Advisor to the Minister Dmytro Zolotukhin said that journalists, like all foreign nationals, must work according to the law of the country to which they come.
“We offer to call back the whole list and to work a few weeks more. We can give those names that we have on our board of shame. It is hard to identify all, to find out who is worthy, and who is not. We need some more weeks for this”, – said the director of the “Telekrytyka” Natalia Ligacheva.
At the end of the meeting, Yurii Stets proposed to the members of working group and the representatives of journalistic NGOs to submit their proposals in a written form during several days. They will be processed by the MIP, and the Minister will submit them for discussion at the meeting of the NSDC.
Recall that on 16 September, President Petro Poroshenko signed a decree enacted NSDC decision from 2 September, which introduces an expanded list of natural and legal persons to whom Ukrainian sanctions are active, because of their involvement in the destabilization of the country. In this regard, the Minister of Information Policy Yurii Stets established a working group on elaboration of proposals on sanctions against media representatives.
