On 6 June the employees of the media sphere in Ukraine celebrate Day of the journalist.
For more than 20 years, this holiday is a wonderful occasion to determine the best wordsmiths and give due respect to the difficult journalistic work. Establishing quality communication with the people, the pluralism of opinions and objective coverage of the events are key factors of a democratic society establishment. Today more than ever it is important to develop freedom of expression and to create a powerful media shield for countering information aggression. The inspired work of Ukrainian journalists should be the pillar and foundation for important state changes.
The team of the Ministry of information policy congratulates all media workers on their professional holiday and expresses its sincere gratitude for the tireless development of Ukrainian journalism. Wish you new achievements and only positive information subjects!
The Minister of information policy of Ukraine Yurii Stets: “Dear colleagues, Your profession is very important in these days when the media has unprecedented influence on people. A word said by a journalist can change the fate of the entire country. At the same time, it makes you vulnerable to criticism and persecutions. We believe that free journalism is the way that leads to openness and honesty of the government, as well as pluralism and tolerance in society”.
Recall that the holiday was introduced on 25 May 1994 by the decree of the President #251/94 in honor of the reception of the Union of journalists of Ukraine to the International Federation of journalists.
