Today, on June 9, the Minister of Information Policy of Ukraine Yurii Stets gave the press conference titled “MIP Activity Report for May 2015”.
Apart from the Minister, the press conference featured Tetiana Popova, Deputy Minister, Serhii Kostynskyi, Advisor to the Minister on Crimean Information Policy, and Serhii Danilenko, a co-chair of the Expert Council under MIP, Associate Professor of International Media Communications and Communication Technologies Department of the Institute of International Relations of Kyiv National Taras Shevchenko University.
Minister Yuriy Stets reported on the MIP projects implemented as a part of the 2015 Government action program. In particular, he informed the participants that the Expert Council under the MIP prepared and presented for discussion the draft of Concept of information security of Ukraine.
In the framework of joint working group activities the draft law “On foreign television and radio broadcasting of Ukraine” has already been referred for review to MPs, members of the Committee on Freedom of Speech and Information Policy of the Verkhovna Rada of Ukraine.
During his speech, the Minister said: “As early as this week, we will present the draft of Concept of information security in the regions of Ukraine, to hear views of all interested experts of our country. As for the draft, I hope it will be passed by the Verkhovna Rada of Ukraine in the autumn.”
Serhii Danilenko told in detail about the draft concept noting all the key points and criteria which the Expert Council followed while creating the document.
“While writing the draft concept the Expert Council focused on fact that this document should be equally relevant both at a time when the government is under pressure, and when it will take the path of development”, said the co-chair.
Reporting on the part of work for which Tetiana Popova is responsible, including the joint project of MIP and MoD «Embedded journalism», Deputy Minister noted that they are working hard for journalists to carry the proper insurance while participating in the project. Tetiana Popova also said that the Commission on ensuring stable operation of national television and radio broadcasting holds weekly regular meetings the main point of which is the implementation of all the tools necessary to restore the broadcasting in the liberated territories in the east of the country.
Yurii Stets’ also noted that at the session the Government will initiate the necessary changes to the relevant regulations for the rapid progress of the process, citing the case of the Act № 317 “Issues on stable functioning of objects of public property of strategic importance for the economy and state security in the field of Telecommunications at a special period”, which was initiated by the MIP and signed by Prime Minister on May 25, 2015.
However, Serhii Kostynskyi reporting on organizing the work on Crimean Information Policy said that the social “Crimea is Ukraine” campaign reached world level. Today campaign stories are posted in Australia, North America and Europe.
“We are not going to stop! The world supports us, so we will do everything to return the peninsula “, – the minister added.
