6 October 2016, the Minister of information policy Yurii Stets held a meeting with Extraordinary and Plenipotentiary Ambassadors of the United Kingdom to Ukraine Judith Gough, of the Republic of Estonia to Ukraine Gert Antsu, of the Republic of Latvia to Ukraine Juris Poikans, of the Republic of Lithuania to Ukraine Marius Janukonis.
The Minister briefed on the priority directions of work of the Ministry and about the violation of Ukrainian citizens’ rights by Russia, in particular of journalists, citing the case of a recently detained and imprisoned Roman Sushchenko.
“The release of the Ukrainian journalist is important not only for the Ukrainian authorities but to the whole civilization of the world”, – he said.
The Minister also noted that the maximum diplomatic pressure will help to somehow fix such situations.
The heads of the Baltic States and the UK missions expressed readiness to support Ukraine in the development of the information sphere.
Extraordinary and Plenipotentiary Ambassador of the Republic of Latvia to Ukraine Juris Poikans said: “We are here today because we are ready to exchange views, to find ways of cooperation towards the development of the information sphere. We are ready to support sanctions against Russia unless there is progress in the implementation of the Minsk agreements. It is necessary to stop the bloodshed in the east of Ukraine”.
The honorable guests expressed their readiness to cooperate with the Ministry of information policy of Ukraine within the indicated key priorities.
The parties agreed to exchange operational information resources of the countries.
The meeting was held at the initiative of the delegation of the Baltic-northern countries and the UK.
