June 17, the Minister of Information Policy of Ukraine Yurii Stets and Deputy Minister Artem Bidenko met with Director on Facebook Public Policy in Scandinavia, Central and Eastern Europe and Russia Thomas Christensen and Head of Facebook Public Policy Sector in CEE Gabriella Czech.
The meeting covered the issue of Facebook policy regarding user content and the procedure of application, review, and response to complaints. In particular, the Minister of Information Policy raised the issue of blocking accounts of Ukrainian politicians, public figures, experts, and drew attention to the problems of content assessment in social networks.
Facebook representatives confirmed starting the dialog with Ukraine’s representatives on more thorough and balanced approach to monitoring of Ukrainian FB segment. They assured that any monitoring and analysis operations with regard to Ukrainian segment take place in the operational office of Dublin (Ireland) based on the principles of political indifference and social network standards.
In addition, the parties discussed the possibility of opening Facebook office in Kyiv.
“Of course, I understand that this is you to assess the extent of the need for such a step. However, I am sure that apart from me this is desired by all Facebook users in Ukraine”, the Minister reported.
