6 December 2016, a roundtable meeting regarding appropriate funding and registration of the Public broadcaster as a legal entity in 2017 was held with the participation of the Minister of information policy of Ukraine Yurii Stets, the Chairman of the Verkhovna Rada Committee on freedom of speech and information policy Victoria Syumar, as well as representatives of the coalition “Public broadcasting”, the members of the Supervisory Board of the National public broadcasting company of Ukraine and representatives of diplomatic missions, with the support of the Council of Europe Office in Ukraine and the Representative Office of the European Union in Ukraine.
“MIP with the Verkhovna Rada Committee on freedom of speech and information policy met with representatives of the NPBC’s Supervisory Board, media experts, public representatives, where they voiced the key message: “Put the tasks before us and we will meet them”. Following this meeting, the process has begun to move faster”, – said the Minister.
Note that MIP had submitted for consideration of the Cabinet of Ministers changes regarding the appointment of a head of the Public broadcasting because of discovered contradictions in the legislation. These changes were adopted by the Government unanimously.
“Now I can say, that we have a clear understanding of what to do to public broadcasting has been launched the following year. We will be a good example for other countries”, – said Yurii Stets.
According to experts, the roundtable participants, it is needed to fulfill two main conditions for the launch of the public broadcaster: to ensure adequate funding and to register a legal entity in January 2017.
