UNESCO has called on Russians to stop destroying cultural values ​​in Ukraine

On March 18, at the second extraordinary meeting of the UNESCO Committee for the Protection of Cultural Heritage, the corresponding declaration was adopted.

According to the text of the document, russia must stop all forms of robbery, misappropriation and vandalism against cultural property, as well as refrain from requisitioning movable cultural property located in Ukraine.

They also called on russia to abide by its obligations under the 1954 Hague Convention and to ratify its Second Protocol.

According to the Declaration, Ukraine is proposed,  in close coordination with UNESCO, to mark important cultural heritage sites with the protective emblem of the 1954 Hague Convention (with the image of the Blue Shield) as soon as possible.

The Declaration also states that all UNESCO Member States and relevant expert organizations on cultural heritage will provide any support or advice on the security and protection of cultural heritage at the request of Ukraine.

UNESCO has also decided to provide Ukraine with urgent support, including financial support and ready to grant enhanced protection status (enhanced protection) to the main objects of cultural heritage in accordance with the provisions of the Hague Convention of 1954 and its protocols.
